Even though it does not have a super 3D hi res graphic, i can say the environmental is Ok, although they need serious work on their character. The characters are disproportional.
The main character, Jason, is short. And i mean it, short! The ladies has a super long upper body when seated. Especially the librarian lady, she made Jason looked like a short little teenage boy who is only 5 feet tall (about 150 cm).
The character movements are weird. Jason actually walks sideways like a crab. He seemed to lost the ability to walk forward. But what saves it is that Jason moves fast to the next screen. So it saves the annoyance. I don't really care if he walks sideways like a crab as long he can walks fast so i can go to the next screen immediately. I prefer he walking sideways but fast rather than he is walking forward but slowly like a snail. Because there is no double click skip to the next area/screen feature in this game.
What makes this game a good but not great game is the storyline. The story bravely opens up issues. What issues? Oh..i don't want to spoil the game, so you should try it by yourself!
Nice music, although the music is actually louder than the voice! And there is no audio setup for me to adjust it?
The vocal talents are doing a great job!
This game still need a lot of improvements from the design point of view. It is the type of game that did not given enough thought on each steps and each in screen task.
If i do not have any idea what i should do next, since sometimes there are no clear clue on what i should do next, i have to comb each area one by one, going round and round again and again, to see any new developments, any new sudden events?
And some of the main key objects to move the storyline to the next level are partially hidden or very small. This is stressful and super annoying to me. It is not fun looking EVERYWHERE in the game with more than 20 areas just to look for one single object!
I heard that this game cost 20 pounds? Is it too steep? Well, in my opinion it is! A website suggest that it should be better if it is free, well i cannot say that i can agree with that either. These people who made DITR has done a good job and i believe they worked hard and has spend money too. So selling it is the best decision for them. But perhaps cheaper than 20 pounds? I don't know, but for people who lives in Asia, i think it is too steep.
The cool fresh idea about this game is the thought feature. Jason's thought can be used just like using a normal item. I think it is a cool idea!
One funny thing about the in game interior design is this; there are some items inside the rooms that really got nothing to do with everything and the comments are also as odd.
For example, in Jason's store room, there are a bowling ball, but the comments said there are no bowling center in this town so Jason does not need to take it. Then there are 2 Tennis rackets but there are no tennis court in this town so Jason does not need to bring it, and then there are 2 pair of shoes, but they are too small for Jason, there are 2 towels in the bathroom, a his and her towel but there is no her, Jason's broken and unused childhood bicycle is still in the attic, but considering that that is not Jason's childhood home, it is his new home prepared by the company... and lots of other stupid things like this...sorry...but i just don't get it. It strikes me silly...
Nevertheless. this is a 100% adventure game. Where nowadays people are mixing adventure games with other genre hoping to make a fresh breakthrough that will be loved by the adventure gamers. Like 80% adventure with 20% action, or 50% adventure 50% puzzles strategy, 60% adventure 40%shooting
I am an adventure game maniac, and in my humble opinion, i do not like when they have action inside an adventure game where i have to climb, jump, whatever like they did on Suit Larry. I was very disappointed! I used to love Suit Larry! It is supposed to be an adventure game! Boo hooo hooo!
Anyway, important notice:
Do not throw away the letter that came with the box!
What happens if you have accidentally thrown it away?
I have a suggestion, go to this website, it is a walkthrough for the game, but on top the writer wrote about the first sentences in each paragraph.
It is needed to pass through the 'security system' to make sure that you did buy the original game.
The first time you want to go inside the DITR building inside the game, they asked you to write down the word from the letter randomly by telling you the line and the paragraph.
What you can do is just click again and again and again until they asked you the word at beginning of the line of each paragraph, because it is written in this website...
I just cross my finger and hope that you did BUY the original and only lost the letter by accident! We gamers SHOULD support the game developers by buying original games! If nobody buys an original games, eventually there will be no more games because all the game developers went bankrupt.
But for those of you who cannot afford to buy an original for several unknown (i don't want to know) reasons, we should understand if they did otherwise. Imagine if you want to play just like everybody else but haven't got the cash to buy one.
So i think, the game developers also should understand.
