OVERCLOCKED - A History of Violence
Third Person view
Total satisfaction: 95%
This game is a psychological thriller, and wow, its not like i love a game with shrinks and crazy people in it that i give it such a high total satisfaction, but this game amazes me truly although there are some things that could have been done better to make the game even more great.
The essence that stands out in this game is the storyline and how the game designer managed to translate it into a game. I actually play as 6 different people yet they make up to one story. And furthermore, i need to play as those 6 people to get the complete story. The stories are divided in small bits, and i have to get it bit by bit from those 5 kids to complete the puzzle.
The main character is a shrink who he himself got so much problems in live. What i like the most about this problems are..... real. Real problems in everyday live. Divorce, out of cash, work problems, and so on.
And it is so ironic that a shrink whose job is to fix people's problem, where he himself almost unable to control his aggression and anger.
I award this game as one of the best storyline ever! But still it cannot be put in one of the best game ever made category.
The bad things about this game is the character modeling and texturing. Especially the shrink, the main character. I cannot stand looking at his face for too long. He was so badly textured!
I think the cop is better in model and texture! So how could the main character looked so bad compared to the other?
Other thing that i cannot stand with ALL the characters is their stare. The STARE! The only thing that moves is their eyelids when they blink, but their eyeball froze in place. Scary!
When they talk, i know that the animators try to mimic them so they don't just open and closes their mouth but actually talking, but it does not always work right. sometimes it made them looked dumb or unreal.
Like for example the porter in the hotel, how do you make your teeth become a V shape? when smiling?
Also the skin face of the the main character, it was so badly textured that i can see small holes and it looked so rough like a wary old carpet or broken asphalt road.
The audio guys did not do such a perfect job either. Some of the conversation line came in too fast after the last line.
The vocal talent is fine, i guess. Especially the shrink guy, he can picture his character really well. His anger and frustration, his job, his personal feelings, and so on.
The other characters are OK as well in terms of characters and personality.
And they actually walk fine! Oh this really reminds me, some games have a super modeling and texturing but bad walk, some games have bad texturing but great animation, some games have good graphics but bad gameplay, some games have great graphic and gameplay but boring storyline, ahh i only wished that those talents who can make good graphics, good music, great audio and animation, super game design, great story and dialog writing are combined together to make one super game. Then i guess there will be the best game ever in this whole world!
Music is OK, but the effects kinda hurt my ear a little bit if tuned too loud.
The movement: The double click skip area feature doesn't always work well. Sometimes it work sometimes the character still runs to the other end, or even walk to the other end.
The graphic effects are amazing. Need a good graphic card to make sure it all working just fine. Since the whole game will be in a raining situation, and just not any rain, but storm rain.
Although no beautiful scenery, but this game still IS INTERESTING, with their tunnels and so on. Compared to Nikopol, who also got lots of tunnels, Overclocked did not make the gamers feel stressful or bored. This is kinda amazing considering that the characters inside the game are 5 crazy kids who were so very depressed and one stressed shrink.
The gameplay is normal adventure game style with the inventory at the bottom of the screen and accessible anytime.
There is a little tiny bit of action where i got to shoot the bricks, but i think that's about it. So i really do not think that this game can be considered as action adventure...
So, see you on the next review!
This game is...
Worthy to buy and worthy to play!
