This one is another nice adventure games, my tears are flowing with happiness, you don't know how happy i am! I played 3 adventure games and 3 of them are great! In a row! So blonde, Mata Hari and this one, Memento Mori! I am sooo happy!
Memento Mori has a rather ordinary idea of a storyline though, as usual, occult, satan coming out, the devil, but they twisted it nice enough, so nice that it actually has 8 different endings!
Wow, how did that happen? Not like most games where the different endings are decided by what i got to choose at the end of the game, this game's different ending is decided by what i decision i choose at the course of the game from the beginning to the end. So i cannot just save my game at almost the end and then go and load it and try one of those different endings one by one. If i ever wanted to try those 8 endings, i have to go back and play again from the beginning. So i guess i will leave that up to anybody who wanted to try...definitely not me..ahaha..
Memento Mori has ordinary character modeling and animation. with blocky body even though i already used maximum anti aliasing. But still...
The movements are quite nice though, it looked more like action game kinda movement, since the camera moves as well, not like the type of adventure games where only the character moves and the environment stays the same. In here, the camera will moves so i can have different views of the area according to where my character moves.
Memento Mori also have the 21st idea of adventure games where we can play 2 different character in one story. We do not have this back in the 90s. But this game does not have any action whatsoever in it, so it is a full 100 percent adventure game.
Voice talent is nice, although that Russian accent made her sounded a little bit rude, like a rough kinda person. Nice music, really nice music.
The game design is also nice, what with the close up inventory system, where i can interact with the objects, like open up my cellphone battery and replace it with a new one by looking at my cell in close up view and actually open the back of the casing to change the battery.
And i must say that although the animation quality in the cinematics is not so nice due to the poor modeling, the character animation or movements in the game itself is really nice and accurate. Like how the main character kneel down to plug in a cable to the socket, how she put down the phone on the table, how she press the elevator button, and so on, it is amazingly accurate. Unlike other games where the character will have the same interactive movement to all objects, making it not accurately touching or interacting with the object since different object has different size, in this game, the character is actually touching, grabbing, kneeling, pressing, and so on.
I found a small bug inside the game though, i do not why but i seemed to attract myself to bugs unintentionally. Whenever i play a game, i always found myself annoyingly stuck to a bug. The bug is when i was in the basement trying to open the electric metal door by cutting the wires and then combining the blue and red colored wires with the electrical wires to open the door. I accidentally stick the wires in a wrong position, and then when i tried to take back the wires, i was stuck, i was unable to take it back! I panicked and pray that this bug will be gone by itself. So i tried to back out from the area, go out several scenes away, then came back and tried to take the wire again, luckily after several clicking attempt, it worked!
PHEW!
What i liked about this game is also, just like So blonde and Mata Hari, the main character actually speak out what is in his or her mind! So i know where to go next! Imagine if i have to be a telepathic and guess what the main character, which actually is not a real person and is a 3Dimensional character is thinking! Or where i have to guess the whole storyline!
If this ever happens, i think this is the main fault of the whole design. It will make the gamer cannot enjoy the storyline and just play! Because i then as the gamer has to go to all the area, click to all the object, guessing, is it this? is it that one? is it this is what he wanted? is the story about this? Sometimes, my brain just cannot connect to the game designer's brilliant brain!
Since i am just a simple lady from next door, and not some hi tech game designer with twisted mind, i cannot guess what the story is about or how to combine the object or how to work a machine or electronic stuff. And this annoys me greatly. I have to find the walkthrough and play by looking at the walkthrough, not by myself!
Luckily the last 3 games i played did not torture me at all. And i can enjoy the game completely. Thank you so much!
